Rack Reviews: Alien #1

Alien #1 (W) Phillip Kennedy Johnson (A) Salvador Larroca

Gabriel Cruz is set to retire from Weyland-Yutani, but he’s not prepared to relax just yet. His nights are haunted by dreams of his encounter with a Xenomorph which he was lucky to survive. His days are spent trying to strategize how to reconcile with his son back on Earth. Luckily, he has a friend to share his woes with; a Bishop-model android, who acts as his therapist. Unfortunately, his Daddy issues and encounters with the deadly Xenomorph are far from over.

Phillip Kennedy Johnson is taking the iconic Alien franchise in an interesting direction. Salvador Larroca’s art is good. It does have a digital feel to it, and some of the backgrounds are lacking, but the Xenomorphs look as grisly as Giger originally designed. Marvel is taking proper care with this titan, so it’ll be good to see what’s in store.
